Rochdale Bus Station
Encyclopedia
Rochdale bus station is a bus station located in the town of Rochdale
in Greater Manchester
, England
. It is run by Transport for Greater Manchester.
The current station opened in the 1970s and is located under a multi-storey car park
between Smith Street and Baillie Street. A new station is proposed to be built on the opposite side of Smith Street (on the former site of Electric House), which will replace the current station. An extension of the Manchester Metrolink
system to the bus station was proposed in Phase 3b. The proposal finally got the go-ahead in May 2009 at a cost of £33m. The agreement was delayed following the rejection of the £3bn Greater Manchester Transport Innovation Fund in December 2008. Trams should reach Rochdale bus station in 2014.
