Robert Zimmerman is the Founder and Partner of Zimmerman/Edelson Inc., a marketing, public relations and advertising firm based on Long Island, New York. Zimmerman/Edelson, Inc. serves municipal, corporate and public sector clients nationally and in the New York metropolitan region.

In 2000, Robert Zimmerman was elected to serve as a Democratic National Committeeman from New York and still holds that position. He was re-elected in 2004 and in 2008. He was also a Trustee of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. In addition to working in many different campaign organization and media roles in the last four presidential campaigns, Mr. Zimmerman was the New York State Co-Chairman of the John Kerry Presidential Campaign in 2004 and the Managing Chair of the New York State Al Gore Presidential Campaign in 2000. He has served on the National Finance Boards of the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Democratic Presidential Campaigns. He presently serves on the National Finance Committee of the Democratic National Committee. Mr. Zimmerman has appeared frequently on national news programs. He was a CNN contributor for the past three years, analyzing issues and advocating positions on the international and national agenda.

A resident of Long Island, New York since childhood, Robert Zimmerman has compiled an extensive background in government and community service. Most recently, he was reappointed to the Board of the American Museum of Natural History representing the Speaker of the New York City Council Christine Quinn. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Bay Street Theatre, located in Sag Harbor, New York. In 1995, Robert Zimmerman was appointed by President Clinton to serve on the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Presidential Commission on the Arts. He held that position through June 2001.

In the past, Robert Zimmerman has served on the New York State Commission on Open Government (1990 to 1996) and was appointed by Governor Mario Cuomo to the Long Island Economic Development Council (1985 to 1995). Additionally, he served as Deputy Executive Assistant to Congressman Lester L. Wolff (1977–1980), on the congressional staff of Congressman James Scheuer (1982–1983) and Special Assistant to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly Mel Miller (1987–88, 1989). In his private and public sector activities, Robert Zimmerman has worked with congressional leadership and the New York State Legislature on behalf of environmental protection, economic development, senior citizens, Vietnam veterans and education.
