's Writers' Workshop in fiction, where he taught literature courses.
By this time he had published short stories in various literary magazines, including Denver Quarterly

, Iowa Review, as well as a handmade chapbook of stories called Imagine a Moment, printed by Leigh McClellen and The Meadow Press.
He wrote and waited tables at The Mill Restaurant in Iowa City for a year before taking a position as a professor at the University of Akron
