Brigadier General Robert Charles Tyler (1833-April 16, 1865) was a Confederate General. He is generally credited with being born in MD, although some claim he was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee

. He served as an officer on William Walker's filibustering army. Prior to the war he helped organize the Knights of the Golden Circle.

Tyler joined the Confederate Army as a Major in 1861 on Benjamin F. Cheatham

Tyler subsequently was promoted to Brigadier General in February 1864 and died on April 16, 1865 in the Battle of West Point
