Later that summer, he earned his only caps with the national team, a 3-1 win over Israel

 on September 26, 1948. In 1950, Annis was part of the U.S. team at the 1950 FIFA World Cup, but never entered a game as the U.S. went 1-2 in the first round. Annis was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1995, along with the rest of the 1950 U.S. World Cup squad.
