Adams was an author especially of post-catastrophe novels. His Horseclans novels are of this type, with a detailed world-view (many of his Horseclans books are so cross-referenced that they make sense only when read in sequential order).Adams' style includes a violent, almost non-stop action, meticulous detail for matters historical and military, strong description, and digressions expounding on various topics from a conservative and libertarian viewpoint.
