Rivka Zohar

Rivka Zohar is a prominent Israeli singer.
in the beginning of the 19th century.
As a child, she appeared on Tshuot Rishonot ("First Applause"), a radio program aimed at the discovery of young talent.
In 1967, Rivka auditioned to participate in Lehakat HaNahal, a popular Israeli army band, but was not chosen. Shortly thereafter, she successfully auditioned by the composer and producer Ilan Mokhiah.
In the beginning of her military service, she performed in front of the Israeli navy, with the accompaniment of an accordionist. Those performances were well received by the soldiers, leading to the creation of Lehakat Hayil Hayam (The Navy Band), which immediately began rehearsing for the program Ve BaYom HaShlishi ("And On The Third Day"). During the band's rehearsals, Yair Rozenbloom presented Rivka with the song Ma Avarekh ("How am I to bless?"), composed to the lyrics of Rachel Shapiro. Rivka was the soloist for the song, and it became a greatest hit of the show when it aired in 1968.
In 1969, Rivka participated in a Tzatz VeTzatzah, a special performance of Nathan Altarman's songs. Altarman composed two songs for Rivka: Orianna (to the melody of Yair Rozenbloom), and Zemer Shalosh HaTshuvot ("Song of the Three Answers", to the melody of Arieh Lebnon). Both songs became hits. Other songs from that performance were BeKerem Teyman ("In Yemen's Vineyard"), and Gedaliah Reva Ish ("Gedaliah Quarter Man"). This performance was repeated many times, occasionally twice in one day.
Also in 1969, Rivka participated in the festival Hazemer Ve Ha Pizmon ("The song and chorus") with the song Al Kapav Yavia ("On His Hands He'll Bring", by Yoram Teharlev and Yair Rozenbloom) that later became Song of the Year on the Kol Yisrael chart. In that year, Zohar received multiple awards, among them Kol Yisrael's Singer of the Year.
One of Rivka's greatest hits of the 70's was Rabbi Akiva, a song written by Daliah Rabikovits, inspired by The Book of Tales by Hayim Nahman Bialik. The song describes the life of Akiva ben Joseph.
Rivka Zohar continued performing and recording through the 80's.
Biography
Rivka Zohar was born and raised in Akko, Israel. Her father, Aaron Zinati, was a fire chief. Zohar studied in Akko, and in the agricultural school in Hahalal. Rivka's family is of Moroccan origins, having arrived in HaifaHaifa
