Rieselfeld is a district of the German

 city of Freiburg. Rieselfeld is one of the two recent new localities and was founded in 1992. Development started in 1993, is still going on and is planned to end in 2010.

 the word Rieselfeld means sewage farm, and this is exactly how the area started in 1891 when the leaders of Freiburg bought the area of 5 square kilometres from the University of Freiburg

. After the Second World War the land was used to house Sinti

 and Jenische. The locality was founded after the town had completed an urban planning competition, the "Urban Development Competition Rieselfeld" (German: „Städtebaulicher Wettbewerb Rieselfeld“). The first houses were constructed in 1994.

Modern day Rieselfeld

At the end of 2005, the Rieselfeld already had 6810 inhabitants and is planned to have between 10.000 and 20.000 by 2010. The locality has two schools (a primary school and a Gymnasium
