 which produced several distinguished Irish officials.He was a clergyman but never appears to have held high office in the Church.He was first mentioned as a Crown official in Ireland in 1441, and held the office of Chancellor between 1446 and 1449. His tenure seems to have been marked by controversy; he was accused of treason by the Earl of Ormond, and twice received a pardon for all transgressions committed while in Ireland. He was unusual among the holders of office of Chancellor in being a military man, and took part in the English defence of Bayonne
