of Gawthorpe and his wife Fleetwood Barton, daughter of R Barton of Barton. His father was MP for Preston.

for Clitheroe

. He was re-elected in November 1640 for the Long Parliament
and sat until his death in 1648. During the Civil War, Shuttleworth became a Colonel in the parliamentary army.
Shuttleworth married Jane Kirk of London and had sons RIchard Nicholas and Fleetwood.
