He resigned the post following police investigations into allegations about tourism grants. Some minor charges were proven against Mrs Corkill; Mr Corkill was not charged.

He announced in November 2006 that he would not be standing for re-election as member of the House of Keys

In the 1980s and 1990s, before becoming an MHK, Mr Corkill ran the Elm Tree Pharmacy on the Main Road in Onchan. In April 2007, Mr Corkill opened a new pharmacy at Corkill's Garage, Main Road, Onchan, a few dozen metres from the site of his original business.
