, at which time it was a town. Its name came from German immigrants from the River Rhine area.
Located on the north bank of the Missouri River
, Rhineland was devastated by water in the Great Flood of 1993
. It became the first town to accept federal funds to move out of a flood plain. All the houses in the town were moved about 1½ miles uphill.

living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 31.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.33.
In the town the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 13.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 79.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
