Recreation Park is a public, urban park
in Binghamton, New York
. Located in Binghamton's West Side, Recreation Park is bordered by Seminary Avenue on the South, Schubert Street on the North, Beethoven Street on the West, and Laurel Avenue on the East. It was founded by shoe manufacturer George F. Johnson
, and is home to one of his six famous carousels. The park also contains a bandstand, statues, numerous athletic fields and courts, a playground, and walking paths.
One famous incident occurred in 2003 when, during a Babe Ruth City baseball game, BTA pitcher Aidan Byrnes hit First Ward's Aaron Shenk with a pitch three times in one game, including twice in one inning. A bench-clearing brawl was averted when First Ward's coach, Mr. Pal, came to the mound and settled the rattled pitcher down. Tone baz had three hits in the first two innings, a Saturday morning record at Recreation Park.
