. it has a ticket office and no barriers. When the ticket office is closed, access to the platform is available through a gate to the left of the building.

Immediately outside the station is the taxi rank and a car park. There are two bus stops, one on the main road, and one along a small slip road, where buses can wait. There is also a newsagent's shop called "Martin The Newsagent" to the right of the station entrance. Rayleigh town centre is a short, steep walk uphill.

On 25 May 2007, the station was the scene of an armed robbery as a cash machine was being unloaded. A local commuter described as "heroic" was shot in the chest while attempting to help the staff, but fully recovered in hospital.
