 and on the main line to Leeds (the former Leeds, Dewsbury & Manchester Railway). The station's platforms are only located on the latter route. A late addition to the LNWR line (station and goods shed built 1890, although the line itself opened some 42 years earlier) to snap up freight work in the area for the company, it remains a curiosity as to why platforms have not been extended to serve the Wakefield lines. It is unstaffed (the former station buildings having been demolished after being damaged by fire and replaced with basic shelters) and passengers travelling from there must buy their tickets on the train.
Ravensthorpe is one of West Yorkshire's least used station due to its relatively remote location (although it does serve the nearby town of Thornhill

Generally an hourly service operates from Ravensthorpe towards Huddersfield
