RanksTel is a Bangladeshi fixed line operator.It is a private public switched telephone network (PSTN) operator in Bangladesh
. As of December 2009, total number of subscriber of this operator is 274.895 thousand It is the second largest PSTN operator in Bangladesh. On March 19, 2010 RanksTel office shut down by BTRC for allegedly running unlicensed VoIP operations. RanksTel won back approval from the telecom regulator on 17th July, 2011 to resume operations after a 16-month shutdown.
RanksTel is one of the largest private sector investments in Bangladesh with an accumulated investment of BDT 200 cores.
13 January, 2005: RanksTel received opertional license from BTRC for Khulna and Bogra zone.
14 April, 2005: RanksTel started its service in Chittagong and Sylhet.
9 September, 2007: After more than two years of service RanksTel received Nationwide PSTN license from Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission.
19 March, 2010 : The telecoms regulator (BTRC) shut down private land phone operator RanksTel on Friday for allegedly running unlicensed VoIP operations.
11 May, 2011 : Telecom Ministry has decided to reissue the license of RanksTel provided it withdraws all its charges against BTRC. Final decision regarding the matter is pending from both the Company and Government.
17 July, 2011 : Private landline operator RanksTel won back approval from the telecom regulator on Sunday to resume operations after a 16-month shutdown.
Since it's shutdown by BTRC, it's subscriber count has been removed from the listing in BTRC's web site.

History
RanksTel is a local company. It is a Bangladeshi non government (private) PSTN (Telecom company),with slogan "RanksTel a kotha Bolun, Desher taka deshe rakhun" (র্যাংকসটেল এ কথা বলুন, দেশের টাকা দেশেই রাখুন). Ranks Telecom limited, a member of RANGS Group launched its wireless phone services under the brand name of RanksTel on April 14, 2005.RanksTel is one of the largest private sector investments in Bangladesh with an accumulated investment of BDT 200 cores.

7 June, 2004: Ranks Telecom Limited, a sister concern of RANGS group first got PSTN license to operate in Chittagong, Sylhet and Dhaka periphery zone.13 January, 2005: RanksTel received opertional license from BTRC for Khulna and Bogra zone.
