Rajkot airport has reached a saturation point due to residential and commercial buildings having come up around it and the Extension Plan is hence unfeasible. The present 5400 feet (1,645.9 m) long runway is incapable of serving aircraft bigger than Boeing 737-800 (which is the largest aircraft operating from the airport). The length of the runway has to be increased to 6000 feet (1,828.8 m) for safe operations. Civil aviation minister Praful Patel
