Radikal Ungdom af 1994 is the official youth organization of the Danish
political party
Det Radikale Venstre
. The organization was founded on 30 April 1994 after the former youth organization Radikal Ungdom was dissolved because of a case of fraud with funding from the Danish Youth Council. Radikal Ungdom, the previous organization, had its first chapter founded in Copenhagen
in 1904 and its first national organization founded in 1911.
Radikal Ungdom is a member of three international liberal and radical umbrella organizations: Nordens Liberale og Radikale Ungdomsforbund (NLRU), European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) and the International Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth (IFRLY).
The current president is Simon Dyhr and vice president is Ronja Lundberg. Both were elected at the congress in October 2010.
The historical ideological foundations for both RU and its mother party is the political philosophy of Social Liberalism
. The use of the word "radikal" in the name owes thanks to liberal thinking from especially France (see Liberalism and radicalism in France
) and the UK.
