RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup
Encyclopedia
The RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup is a golf tournament for professional female golfers. It is part of the LPGA Tour. It was played for the first time in 2011 at the Wildfire Golf Club at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona
. The tournament is designed as a tribute to the founders of the LPGA.
The title sponsor of the tournament is R.R. Donnelley, a commercial printing corporation with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
In a unique format conducted for the first time in LPGA history, the players do not receive a cash payout. Instead, the tournament donates half of the $1 million tournament purse to charity and the other half to individual charities chosen by the top-10 finishers. All players who make the cut receive a portion of the purse in the form of virtual winnings that are attributed to them for purposes of the LPGA official money list.
A full-field, three-day 54-hole event, the tournament includes 134 golfers. The field is cut approximately in half after the second day.
1In 2011, $500,000 of the purse went LPGA-USGA Girls Golf and $500,000 went go to the top-10 finishers’ designated charities. All winnings were attributed to the players for purposes of the 2011 LPGA Official money list.
