Jury

Gustav Hofer – Copresident of jury

Born in the Bolzano province, moved to Rome, where he is living since 2000, after graduating in Communication Sciences in Vienna and in Cinema in London. From 2001, works as culture correspondent for french-german television Arte. For the same network, he’s hosting “Journal de la Culture – Arte Kultur” since 2005. Before Suddenly, Last Winter he had shot other documentaries: Uomini per tutte le stagioni for Médecins Sans Frontières; Il sangue dell’Impero for Rai Tre channel, with Giovanni Sparo; Torna a casa, Bush and Korea Prioritaria, winner of the Special Mention at the Genova Film Festival.

Luca Ragazzi – Copresident of jury

Born in Rome, graduated in Literature and Philosophy, has been working for the last 15 years as a journalist and cinema critic for many newspapers and magazines as well as for Radio Rai. Suddenly Last Winter, which saw Luca involved along with Gustav as director, screenwriter, co-producer and main character, after the Special Mention received at Berlin Film Festival 2008, participated at more than 90 festivals around the world, meeting everywhere with outstanding success; it has been acquired, among others, by TV stations in US, Canada, France, Germany, Thailand and Korea. In 2009 it was awarded the Silver Ribbon Award for Best Documentary.

Mark Smith

Born in London, deputy editor of “Time Out Amsterdam” monthly magazine and contributing writer for “Style.com” and “Dazed & Confused”. Arrived in the Netherlands after stints in Paris, Berlin and most recently the Middle East, where he was film editor for “Time Out Dubai.” Has written features for Screen International, and curated Tesco Disco, a multimedia club night in London which encouraged short film contributions as well as the consumption of gin.

Peter Marcias

Director and screenwriter, born in Sardinia, graduated in movie directing. Living and working in Rome, has realized several commercials, documentaries and short movies, presented at National and International festivals. In 2006 his debut in features, the collective movie Bambini (episode I’m Alice), produced and distributed by Gianluca Arcopinto, is in competition at Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and at Giffoni Film Festival. He directed the docu-fiction Wasn’t Spain Catholic? (2007) and the feature film Suspended Hours (2008) competing at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

Roberto Schinardi

Journalist, cinema and television critic, contributing writer for il manifesto, Ciak, Ciak in Mostra, Torino Magazine, Pride and the website Gay.it where he has been film editor for 10 years as well as writing the daily television column Gaywatch. Editor of Kali, a free press magazine dedicated to contemporary art. In 2003 he published the essay “Cinema gay, l’ennesimo genere” for Edizioni Cadmo. He directed and scripted some short movies, among them Senza Chiave (1998) with Arturo Brachetti, Danilo Bertazzi e Sara D’Amario. He works as well for literary prizes. Living and working in Turin.
