When he was 12 years old, he gave his first sitar recital in Switzerland. He was taught by his father Parthapratim Chatterjee, a disciple of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Chatterjee has designed the DWO, which is a doppelganger of the Indian sitar.
He has performed as a solo artist and as a part of the groups Shastriya Syndicate and Stringstruck. He is also a vocalist and has performed in duet with Shankar Mahadevan
