Once it was the land of revolution called the Punnapra-Vayalar.
History says that people came on foot with weapons to attack the police camp that was situated here and a fierce battle took place.
The same incident happened in Vayalar too. Thus the incident was named Punnapra-Vayalar revolution.
Now there is a memorial here known as the Punnapra-Vayalar memorial martyrs' column.
Every year, a procession on the date is being held from Valya chudukad in Alappuzha to here as the martyrs are remembered.
