Pulmonary artery banding
Encyclopedia
Pulmonary Artery Banding (PAB), is a palliative surgical procedure used in the treatment of congenital heart defects. The technique is used in the treatment of infants with pulmonary overcirculation until more definitive repairs can be made.

History

The technique was first described by Muller And Damman at UCLA in 1951. In recent years, the use of this technique has declined as studies have indicated that early definitive repair is preferable to this form of palliation.
