Puthiyankam is a small village in Alathur Taluk, located in the Palakkad district of Kerala state, southern India. The actual spelling is "Puthiyankam", although name "Pudiyankam" is being used by the Postal Department. This small village is situated about 18km from Palakkad town, on the route to Thrissur, at exactly 1km from Trippalur, south of National Highway (NH) 47. The River Gayathri crosses Trippalur, a place of scenic beauty, splitting it into two -- a section under the Erimayur village and the other one under Alathur Village (Pudhiyankam Amsom).

The main occupation is (was?) agriculture, with large areas of paddy fields. The population is mostly Hindu (Nair, Ezhava and a few Dalit communities), with some Muslim households in Trippalur and Thekkumuri areas. Once Puthiyankam was famous for fireworks manufacturing and supplying. The Puthiyankam-Kattusseri Vela is a famous festival which is celebrated on the Atham star in the month of Meenam, as per the Malayalam calendar. This vela mahotsavam is held in Puthiyankam and the neighbouring village of Kattusseri. Puthiyankam is famous for Kannyarkali which will be held every year in May and is performed and lasted for 3 days in front of the famous Vettakkorumakan or vettakkaruman temple, and Vadukakkali, performed by the Vaduka community members at Vadukathara. The Shiv temple, at the nearby village Pullode, is also known for Deepavali festival and Pullode Vela. Ana Govindan Nair (the contractor who used to supply elephants to the festivals across kerala, and kuttappan maaraar, a chenda vidhwan, were renowned figures from pullode.

The village always treasure all the festivals in its traditional way. Even the younger generation is keen about preserving the tradition and culture of the place. The youngsters of the village has also formed a club named Tharodya Arts and Sports Club, the only club in the place by the youngsters which celebrates all the festivals in a colorful and fantastic way. The main aim of the club is to keep the culture of the village and to respect and preserve it through the celebrations. The club organizes celebrations for kids to the older people of the whole village on every occasions, giving them colorful memories every time.
