Prolog Development Center A/S(PDC) is a software company based in Copenhagen
.
Today, PDC employes 65 people in Denmark and 15 people in St. Petersburg, Russia, working with software development, consultancy and support.
PDC supply advanced planning and scheduling solutions as well as speech based applications for manufacturing, retail and service businesses, larger public institutions, airlines and airports.
Apart from other IT-companies PDC also specializes in development of the Visual Prolog
programming language, which is the main development platform for the PDC planning applications.
It appeared that the interest was so high that there was a foundation for establishing a company.
Originally, Prolog was developed out of scientific curiosity for problems that required artificial intelligence. But with the new compiler the possibility for a commercial application development based on Prolog appeared.
. Borland marketed the product under the name of Turbo Prolog and due to their success PDC's Prolog system was sold all over the world in great numbers. Turbo Prolog became the most widespread Prolog system in the world. However, in 1990 PDC took over the marketing rights again and the software package is now called Visual Prolog
.
In 1988 PDC started offering consultancy and several different solutions within decision support and planning have seen daylight since then. One of the greater business successes is within aviation where PDC's technology is used for airport capacity planning, flight traffic control, staff scheduling, etc. Today, PDC is a leading IT supplier for the aviation business.
PDC stepped into the market for advanced planning solutions at a time where this market was just "wakening". But the technologies have established PDC among the leading suppliers. PDC's image builds upon the ability to create value for clients through solutions that offer decision support based on (1)overview, (2) handling dynamic environments, and (3) assurance for compliance to all kinds of rules and regulations.
As examples, the PDC StaffPlan application is planning the daily work for more than 300.000 people, and PDC's SCORE system is planning approx. 20% of the worlds flight arrivals and departures.
In addition, PDC has specialized in providing speechbased interfaces to a number of solutions. Speech recognition, speech synthesis and dialogbased speech solutions is a growing business in PDC.
In April 2010, PDC founded the Spinoff company Agile-Team Aps providing an advanced solution for project management - Agile-Team.

History
Once upon a time... there were three Danish electronic engineering students who got interested in the Prolog programming language. Based on research from the Technical University of Denmark and a good deal of innovation they developed a Prolog compiler for the IBM PC.It appeared that the interest was so high that there was a foundation for establishing a company.
Originally, Prolog was developed out of scientific curiosity for problems that required artificial intelligence. But with the new compiler the possibility for a commercial application development based on Prolog appeared.
Master Thesis Work Became a Living
So the students founded Prolog Development Center. The company started out in a small apartment in Copenhagen. There, the Prolog compiler was matured while they were working on establishing a marketing cooperation. At an early stage it was realized that the product had to be marketed by a company with the power and resources needed. PDC ended up signing an agreement with the successful American software vendor, BorlandBorland

Consultancy
The Prolog technology - especially the capability to efficiently deal with "rules" - inspired PDC to start working with application development in areas that are heavily rulebased - planning and scheduling. Part of the inspiration came from challenges where others had said, that the scheduling was to complex to be computerized. In 1987 PDC started solving the first customer project and Scandinavian Airlines Systems became one of the first customers and partners.
