was 590.5 people per square mile (228.3/km²). There were 761 housing units at an average density of 478.0 per square mile (184.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 2.23% White, 97.45% African American, 0.11% Asian, and 0.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.
There were 346 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% were married couples
living together, 27.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.21.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 29.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 81.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.9 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $31,667, and the median income for a family was $35,625. Males had a median income of $23,281 versus $19,886 for females. The per capita income
