Boundaries

From the 1950s until its abolition, Preston South covered the western quarter of the Preston borough and the Walton-le-Dale urban district . Under the provisions of Section 2(3) of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act, 1949, subsequent boundary alterations were made. In 1964, the component wards were Ashton, Avenham, Central, St John's, Savick, and Tulketh, in addition to the Urban District of Walton-le-Dale. This remained until its abolition for the 1983 general election.
