Praxoula Antoniadou Kyriakou is Acting President of the United Democrats
since March 2007.
She is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science where she received a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Economics.
She held a managerial position with the Central Bank of Cyprus
where she served for 24 years. She has significant expertise in macroeconomic analysis and management, in monetary policy issues and in statistics. A most valuable knowledge and experience was gained during the five-year period of the accession negotiations, when she served as coordinator of all work associated with the accession negotiations and the harmonization effort, in the fields of competence of the Central Bank. She also participated in the preparation for the introduction of the euro to Cyprus.
She is a regular and active participant of the meetings of the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties meeting at Ledra Palace
, where she proposed and followed up specific common initiatives of the parties that are leading to the rapprochement of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities of Cyprus.
She cooperated with President Vassiliou on the preparation of the study of the financial aspects of the Annan Plan. She is also the co-author of “ The Day After: Commercial opportunities following a solution to the Cyprus problem “ , a study financed by PRIO, and of a study on the ‘’ Simultaneous introduction of the Euro on both sides of the Green Line in Cyprus”, financed by the British High Commission in Cyprus.
She is nearly fifty! She is married to Lysandros Kyriakou and has two children, Semeli and Theodoros.
She envisions the reunification of Cyprus, the revitalization of the economy and the renewal of the social and political life of the country. She considers that the United Democrats are instrumental in opening up avenues for the exit of Cyprus from its past and its stepping into a new promising future- a truly European future for all the Cypriots and especially for the younger generations of the country.
