Reception

Though the movie did not make major show at boxoffice on its release due to poor promotions and competition from the other hit movies such as simha and darling, it recovered money for the producer as the remake rights itself were sold for about 70 lakhs in five languages. The film director publicly confessed that he made a mistake by releasing the movie at the wrong time in the lakshmi talk show. The movie was well received by the critics upon its release. The critics mainly praised the performance of sai kumar and the convincing plot though many criticized the director for unapt song inclusion in crucial portions of the movie. The movie won several awards including the state government nandi awards, besides the film was selected for screening in the Indian Panorama section at International Film Festival of India, Goa.
It won two filmfare awards - best film critics choice and best supporting for Sai Kumar apart from many more regional awards.
