Bosnia & Herzegovina originally was within the Austro-Hungarian empire, before falling under Yugoslavia, and regaining independence in 1993.

Austro-Hungary

Bosnia & Herzegovina used the postage stamps of Austro-Hungary from 1879. Stamps with Bosnien Herzegowina were produced in 1906 and included a view of Doboj

It produced a number of military post stamps in the 1910s, many of them depicting Francis Joseph I. Newspaper stamps which included a depiction of a girl in a Bosnian costume (1913) and postage due stamps (1904 and 1916) were also produced.

Annexation

In 1918 Bosnia was annexed by Yugoslavia

and the country used Yugoslavian stamps until becoming independent in 1992.

Independence

The country produced its first stamps since independence in 1993 under the command of the Sarajevo government and began inscribing them as Republika Bosna I Hercegovina.
