Plot

Nagesh and Nambiar have been best friends since college and so have their children, Jaiganesh and Vasudevan. Jaiganesh's family members are Christians while Malaysia Vasudevan's are Hindu. Jaiganesh's son is Lawrence and Malaysia Vasudevan's daughter is Anju Aravind. Robert, brother of Jaiganesh, and Janaki, sister of Malaysia Vasudevan, fall in love with each other. Against their families' wishes, they elope. Ever since then, the two families hate each other. Anju and Lawrence are in love with each other, but are afraid of their families' opposition.

Raja (Vijay)comes to the village and announces that he is the son of Robert and Jananaki. He wants to reconcile the feuding families. So, with his friend Charlie, Raja stays at the house of a loud, frightful Velingiri. He gradually endears himself to both families. Later, both of his aunts appear before him with marriage proposal but, to avoid it, he says he is married to a Hindu-Christian like himself. In comes Sangeetha, whom he hires to pretend to be his wife. However, later she reveals that she is the real child of Robert and Janaki and asks Raja why he is acting as the grandson of Nagesh and Nambiar.

There ensues a flashback where Raja explains why he came to the village. There was a ladies' hostel near Raja's house in the city. Anju was one of the girls who stayed in the hostel. As she and her friends were trying to find a good tune to a song for a contest, Raja indirectly helps her and falls in love with her. However she treated him as only a good friend. When Raja was about to confess his love for her, Anju instead tells Raja of her love for Lawrence. Hearing their plan to marry without their parents' consent because of the Robert-Janaki problem, Raja decides to pose as the son of the runaway couple and help bring the two families together.

Raja and Sangeetha carry out this mission and, when he is seen helping out the lovers in their ways of marrying, Anju Aravind's father learns of their love. The news spreads quick as wildfire and both families now think they have run away and want to kill the members of the other family. Meanwhile, Raja has reconciled the aunts (mothers of Anju and Lawrence) and the grandparents of the two families. Only the uncles and the lovers are his main concern now. He does this also in style. After the marriage, the truth of Raja's appearance is revealed. Later, the happily reunited families ask him to marry Sangeetha to make him a member of their family. But he refuses because he only loves Anju Aravind and he can't forget her.
