. The school was originally named Henry Harbin but was renamed Poole High School.

The school has been open for 67 years and currently has more than 100 members of staff and around 1650 pupils.

Poole High School has now been accepted to be a specialised school of Business and Enterprise.

History

Built in 1939 as Henry Harbin Senior School, the school has expanded every decade since, most notably in the 1990s. The school was originally two separate schools (boys on the western side, girls on the eastern) and the main building was almost exactly the same as the original building at Kemp-Welch School (now Rossmore Community College

) which opened in 1938. Today similarities between the two schools can still be seen despite both have been extensively modernized. The school became a mixed school for 12-16 year olds in the 1970s. The large sixth form block in front of the school was built when the leaving age was raised to 16 in the early 1970s. This building also houses the sports hall and swimming pool and a number of study areas for sixth form students.

In the late 1980s the school became a 'technical high school' and the school was renamed Poole Technical High School in the early 1990s, although is now just known as 'Poole High School'.

On the 26th April, 2011 a man was found dead on the school premises who was later named as Donald Morgan.

Recent changes and future plans

The arrival of new headteacher Chris Lewis has brought the school many new developments, including a new main school canteen, English block and Art room extension with a sixth form only upper balcony area, all reaching completion in 2010. An extension to the Science block is aiming to reach completion by Summer 2011, complete with a first floor runway connecting back to the main school.

Poole schools will undergo a rearrangement, meaning that starting in 2015, Poole High will include Year 7 children, pushing the total number of children in attendance to over 2000, making it one of the largest schools in the country.
