History

Pitafi is a very old tribe originally living around the Petaf river in South-Eastern Iran. Most Pitafis migrated to different areas in Southern Pakistan. Pitafis are predominantly agricultural people and some of them are well-reputed producers of rich verities of organic mangoes.

In the beginning of the migration from Iran, Pitafis settled in Southern Punjab. However, soon Pitafis, along with several other Baloch tribes, opposed Abbasi Kingdom in favour a local ruler. As a result, the Abbasis asked Mughals emperors to send their army add to crush Baloch armed tribes (including Pitafis). In that situation most of Balochi Generals migrated to various parts of Sindh during Talpurs dynasty (early 1800s).

Before entering the Sindh, Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan met the Talpur King, asking him to allow his army to settle in Sindh who allowed them to come and settle wherever they felt comfortable. He selected the area of Mirpur Mathelo and from there to various other parts of the Sindh province.
