Pink Drums, Purple Lights goes into the detail of stories. On the album, there are songs about monsters, castles, candy, her father and her grandmother's dog among other things. Recorded when Maya was 4 years old by her father, T.W. Bond, Maya outlined the composition for the music and wrote the lyrics on all of the songs on the album, aside from "Kira Kira" and "Velvet Twinkle" which are traditional lyrics to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
