Philip Esler

Philip Francis Esler is an Australian-born academic who became the inaugural Chief Executive of the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council
(AHRC) in 2005, remaining in the role until 2009. Phillip completed his high school at the then named Marist Brothers High School
in the Sydney suburb of Eastwood
. He read Law and Theology at the Universities of Sydney (B.A., LL.B., LL.M.) and Oxford (D.Phil.), and was sometime Vice-Principal at St Andrews University. During his tenure of the AHRC he continued to hold the Chair in Biblical Criticism at St Andrews.
Professor Esler is a member of the South West Science and Industry Council.
On 1st October 2010 Professor Esler became Principal at St Mary's University College, Twickenham.
