Middlesex University investigation

On 21 May 2010, the administration of Middlesex University suspended Hallward, along with Professor Peter Osborne, Christian Kerslake, and several students, pending an investigation into their involvement in the campaign against the decision to close the Department of Philosophy. Hallward, Osborne, and Kerslake were barred from the premises of the university, and forbidden to contact Middlesex students. These suspensions, along with the impending closure of the Department of Philosophy, have drawn international criticism from such scholars as Jean-Luc Nancy

announced that they would reestablish the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, formerly of Middlesex University, and employ Hallward, Osborne, Eric Alliez, and Stella Sandford, the four senior members of the Middlesex philosophy staff. Middlesex's MA and PhD students would also be able to transfer to Kingston.
