In 2007, Kendall became embroiled in a contract dispute with the Jets' front office. Kendall believed the team had reneged on a verbal agreement to raise his base salary for 2007 after he had agreed to restructure his contract the year before. 's instructions not to do so. As a result, Mangini sent Kendall to the rookie dorms and demoted him to second string, further aggravating the situation and triggering his nickname, "Goodfernothin Pete Kendall". On August 23, 2007 Kendall was traded to the Washington Redskins

In week 6 of 2008 Pete Kendall was involved in an exotic play at home against the St. Louis Rams. Quarterback Jason Campbell of Kendall's Redskins threw a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage and was caught off the deflection by Kendall. Kendall, instead of going out of bounds, tried to run the ball downfield. He was hit by a Ram and fumbled the ball. It was recovered by Rams defensive back Oshiomogho Atogwe

who returned the ball all the way for a lengthy touchdown. The play happened with less than twenty seconds left in the first half. St. Louis won the game on a walk off game winning field goal to win 17-16. Understandably Kendall took a bit of criticism for the play.

Personal

He and his wife Michelle have two sons, Andrew and Peter, and a daughter Madison. He volunteered for the American Red Cross in an effort to help families in Hurricane Katrina.
