Pernando Amezketarra
Encyclopedia
Fernando Bengoetxea Altuna, commonly known as Pernando Amezketarra or — not so often — Fernando Amezketarra, was a bertsolari
and folk guy born in the village of Amezketa
(Gipuzkoa), specifically in the farm named Espizaltxe, on October 10, 1764.
Since he was very child he became known among the folk by his witty and his jokes, until he became an indispensable character in every celebration happening around (fairs, meetings, weddings...). He was shepherd for some time, as most people in his village in those days. He got married with Maria Joxepa Sagastume, and they had 9 children, while they lived in Ixpille and Azentzin Txikia farms. He died in this last one.
He has been honoured in many occasions. The anecdotes of Pernando Amezketarra, folk and funny, were collected and been published by Gregorio de Mújica under the title of Pernando Amezketarra, successful book many times reissued.
In the 1990s, a TV serial about this character was broadcasted by ETB 1
.
- Reverend..., sorry, could I make you a question, please?
- Of course, whichever you want.
- Well, I want to know... er... this... in this village, when you want to invite somebody to lunch, how must you say it?
- There are many ways for this.
- Well, but tell me one of them, please.
- How could I say it to you? "If you came with me to have lunch, you would give me a joy."
- All right, I'm going to give you this joy.
- What?!
- I'm going to have a lunch with you.
- But...!
- I've been waiting so long for somebody to tell me something like this!

Anecdote by Pernando Amezketarra
It was a small village. The noontime hours go forward. Pernando's starving, but he can't see any way for filling his stomach. Then, a priest comes down the street. Pernando approaches him, and after a very ceremonious greeting, he asks:- Reverend..., sorry, could I make you a question, please?
- Of course, whichever you want.
- Well, I want to know... er... this... in this village, when you want to invite somebody to lunch, how must you say it?
