Periorbital hyperpigmentation

Periorbital hyperpigmentation is characterized by dark circles around the eyes, which are common, often familial, and frequently found in individuals with dark pigmentation or Mediterranean ancestry. Atopic patients may also exhibit periorbital pigmentation (allergic shiners), and treatment is ineffective.
