Per Scholas is a United States registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Bronx, New York. Per Scholas was founded in 1995 by a consortium of leading foundations and corporations to build and distribute computers at a significant discount to schools serving low-income neighborhoods. Its name, derived from the Latin phrase "for schools," reflects the organization's dedication to technology education and putting computer equipment and knowledge into the hands of disadvantaged students, families and the schools and organizations that serve them.
Per Scholas has focused as its mission for over 15 years, on the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty by bringing the advantages of computer technology and workforce development to low-income communities. To date Per Scholas has provided more than 90,000 people with home computers for them and their families. They have trained more than 3,100 adults in computer repair and maintenance leading to professional certification and new careers. Together their program graduates are now earning more than $96 million a year. They have recycled more than 1 million pieces of computer hardware, keeping all of this out of landfills and reducing community hazards from disposal of toxic waste. Per Scholas also partners with 27 inner-city public schools and has created over 60 full time jobs, bringing over $5 million in economic activity to the poorest congressional district in the nation.

A+ and Network+Certification tests, industry standards that open the door to jobs, careers and advancement. Once a graduate passes, he or she is qualified for several technical and computer repair positions.
Upon graduation, Per Scholas career placement officers assist with job search from beginning to end. In many cases, graduates find work with employers who come to Per Scholas because of its reputation for producing high quality technicians. Prominent among them are GE Capital, Time Warner, AMC Corporation, Cablevision of NYC, and 4G Data.
. With a capacity of two hundred and fifty thousand units per year, its facility serves institutions, municipalities and corporations throughout the New York region.

Per Scholas' fifteen week, full-time program combines classroom and hands-on experience with an on-the-job internship. The 500+ hour curriculum covers the assembly, configuration, installation, upgrade and repair of personal computers, printers and copiers as well as the design, installation and troubleshooting of networks.
