Penang Times Square is a planned urban centre in Georgetown on Penang Island, situated on the land of the former Escoy Smelting Company.

Penang Times Square is located in the heart of Georgetown, along Jalan Dato Keramat. It is easily accessible via Jalan Macalister, Jalan Magazine, Jalan Burma, Jelutong Expressway and many other major roads within Georgetown.

This massive development is divided into four phases where phase one (Birch The Plaza) was opened in October 2009, the second phase (Birch Regency) has been topped out and is expected to open its doors by 2011. At the same time, plans for phase three is a world-class meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) centre with a cineplex while phase four is a proposed 352-room four or five-star boutique hotel together with spa facilities. The remaining phases will only begin construction by 2012, is expected to be completed within three years.

The buildings of the three phases will be interlinked with one another by covered bridges and extra wide corridors and beautifully landscaped walkways with sophisticated water features. The entire site will be under 24-hour security surveillance.

Chin Ho Plaza

At the heart of Penang Times Square is a public open plaza, called Urban Square reminiscent of the traditional town square that will be the focus of community gatherings and celebrations. Soon, Urban Square was renamed as Chin Ho Plaza after the entrepreneur and smelter Lee Chin Ho who started the tin smelting at the site and produced the Escoy brand Straits refined tin.

Phase 1: Birch The Plaza

Phase 1 comprises 4 floors of commercial with a total 178 commercial units and 19 floors of residential units. Ample parking bays are available at the multi-level car park on Floor 4A and 4B as well as outdoor parking bays at Chin Ho Plaza.

Sunshine City

Sunshine City commenced business in December 2009. It occupies a total of 110000 sq ft (10,219.3 m²) of retail space, housed on Level 3 and 4. Level 3 would be a lifestyle department store and the supermarket on Level 4.

The outlet could be easily accessible from Jalan Kampung Jawa Baru via a scenic super escalator linking Ground Floor and Fourth Floor and a bubble lift from Jalan Dato Keramat that serves the car park level and the supermarket level. Parking would be free for the first 2 hours as shoppers spend RM30 in the supermarket.

Ming Garden

Ming Garden, one among the largest restaurant on Penang island, is located on Level 2 of the complex. Besides housing several private dining rooms, Ming Garden will also be an ideal venue for wedding reception and corporate functions. With a total of 20000 sq ft of dining space, the restaurant has a capacity to accommodate 100 dining tables and can host events up to 1000 peoples.

Hair Impression Salon & Academy

Located in the second level of Penang Times Square, Hair Impression Salon and Academy is founded by Denny Phang & Pessy Tai, whose credentials are renowned throughout Malaysia. This hair academy is authorized and accredited by the international brand Schwarzkopf Professional from Germany to use the ASK title as it meets the highest standard expected of ASK academies, Academy of Skills and Knowledge.

Food Gallery

The Food Gallery managed by Bali Hai Group with 200 offerings of dishes was opened in Penang Times Square on March 9, 2011. It is one of Penang’s largest food courts with a total of 20 stalls serving up to 200 types of food from over 15 countries as well as Penang’s hawker delights. Some of the main items featured at the Food Gallery include German sausage, Indonesian nasi padang, Japanese sushi & teppanyaki, Chinese herbal soup, Hong Kong dim sum, Mexico burritos, Korean bibimbap, Italian pasta, grilled seafood and more.

This large 40000 sq ft (3,716.1 m²) food court on the 1st floor is easily accessible via an outdoor escalator from the parking lot at the ground floor. Prices are kept affordable for all food items plus there are many varieties to choose from, all served with localized taste and impressively presented. Customers may eat in the comfort of the air-conditioned food court or its open-air section that overlooks Chin Ho Plaza.

Apart from varieties, what makes this Food Gallery special is the focus on hygienic handling and preparation of food under the watchful eyes of the Chef Department. This department will operate a central kitchen to ensure food hygiene is maintained and the quality of food prepared is consistent. Furthermore, it is also able to introduce new cuisine faster to discerning diners.

SOJU Club

SOJU Club is a hot, new nightspot that has just opened at the Penang Times Square. It comprises a club, beer garden and café on the ground floor.

SOJU is the place for music lovers to enjoy the lively performances from the band members whom play a wide repertoire from the latest Top 40 hits, R&B, hip hop, rock, reggae to the hottest Latin tunes. SOJU also boasts a casino-themed interior and a state-of-the-art sound system.

For those who want a quieter place to chill or to chat with new acquaintances, the outdoor beer garden is another winning spot. For those who are entertaining clients with a big appetite, the adjoining café serves not only substantial meals and snacks, but also gelato, gourmet coffee and juices, all priced affordably.
