. He was the designer, builder, and engineer of the irrigation system that was installed there. The settlement was named in 1903 or 1904 when the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railorad (SP&LASL) which is now the Union Pacific Railroad Company (UPRR) installed a switch and a railroad station at the location. The concrete viaduct train bridge that crosses the Santa Ana River was at one time the longest concrete railroad bridge in the United States. On the northern edge of Pedley at Jurupa Ave C/O Van Buren is the Bly Wye. The wye serves as a juncture to the Crestmore Cement Mill and was once the connection to the Pacific Electric to downtown Riverside and Rialto. The Bly Wye also led to the rock quary at the end of Jurupa Ave. The rock quary provided rock for San Pedro Harbor and the rock jetties.

Station 16 is in Battalion 14. Station 16 was formely Battalion 14 headquarters, before battalion 14 moved to Station 17 Glen Avon in the early 1990s.

At one time there were three engine companies running out of Station 16, Engine 16 (1985 Spartan Van Pelt RCOFD Asset #85X446), Engine 16A (1978 Ford Kovatch with a Ford C700 cab, RCOFD Asset #78X269) and Engine 16R the battalion reserve engine (1991 Emergency One with Ford C800 cab RCOFD Asset #91X517).
In 1994, Station 16 received it's current engine, a 1994 E-One (RCOFD Asset #94X824) which replaced the 1985 Spartan Van Pelt. Old Engine 16 became Engine 19A at Station 19 in Highgrove.
Historic Strike Team involvement: In 1993 during the Malibu fires all the Engines in Battalion 14 were assembled into several strike teams and were dispatched to Malibu.

The Pedley Volunteer Fire Company was formed in 1954. The name changed to Pedley Fire Department in 1997. The third Squad 16 in 1998 had a logo penstriped on the fenders of the squad that said "Serving the Communities of Jurupa Valley" - this was the idea of a Pedley Volunteer Firefighter, who had graduated from Jurupa Valley High School in 1993. Now the area is an incorporated city with the namesake.
In 1994, the Pedley Volunteer Fire Company started the annual "Christmas Adopt-A-Family Program." This program started out with serving approx. 23 families the first year to over hundreds of families in 2010.
The Pedley Fire Company is also known for it's annual pancake breakfast that usually takes place in the Month of May.
In Law enforcement, Pedley and the entire Jurupa Valley (i.e. Mira Loma and Glen Avon) is served by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department office based in Rubidoux.
