Yonga also played at the ESP camp in Denver, Colorado by invitation, being amongst some of the top names in U.S. soccer to play in the camp, such as Jozy Altidore

“His touches were just perfect and every ball he gave to someone was unbelievable. Even after several years of not playing his touches were still beyond any of ours. I think it helped us to try to aspire to his level. Coach Trask of University of Wisconsin–Madison said,
"Paul is a very experienced player that will be counted on as a freshman. He is a very skilled passer and is very comfortable on the ball. His understanding of the game, ability to win balls and his tackling ability will be great assets for us next year. Paul comes to us as the Minnesota player of the year and continues a great tradition of top Minnesota talent playing for the Badgers."

In 2009, Yonga was named Class A. Mr. Soccer, as well as being the all time highest career scorer record at T-G, the single season and career assists record, and was named the best player in the North Suburban Conference in both junior and senior years. He has been First Team All-State three years in a row, and was chosen as the Minnesota High School Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year as a junior.Academy career
