Paul James Phillips has worked as the lead guitarist for many bands, most notable for Puddle of Mudd
, but has left it in 2011 through a Facebook post, and is willing to continue his career in another band later. He started with Puddle of Mudd
since their 2001 hit album Come Clean
. He also assisted with guitars and vocals in the group's second record, Life on Display
and played guitar in the group's 2009 album, Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate
and on the Puddle of Mudd
's latest compilation album, Re:(disc)overed
. Phillips left the band in 2005, citing creative differences, but returned in 2009, and left again in November 2011.
He joined the band when his friend Fred Durst
invited him to audition for a band for Durst's record label. He had previously played guitar in the Jacksonville, Florida
ska/punk band Happy Hour. He has since joined the band Operator
whose debut album
was released in the summer of 2007.
On April 3, 2008 the Jacksonville, Florida band Society Red announced on their Myspace page via a bulletin that Paul Phillips was joining the band. Their first show will be at Jackrabbits in Jacksonville Florida on April 11, 2008.
In 2009, Puddle of Mudd's Myspace page stated that Paul has rejoined the band, on November 13th 2011, Paul Phillips released this statement on his Facebook page: "So here it is. The bombshell followed by silence. I will not be touring with Puddle on this upcoming run. I won't be airing any dirty laundry in public. That's not who I am. I just want to thank each and every one of you for your support throughout the years at shows and on my facebook page here. It means a lot. I've always tried to make myself accessible to you and have always tried to never let you down when I got up on that stage. However, there is nothing I can do."
, the culprit, whose name is Martin Minter, was captured, just one week after appearing as a wanted fugitive on the program.

Paul Phillips picked up guitar when he was 11. His father played guitar in a cover band.
