Paul Collaer was a Flemish Belgian musicologist, pianist, and conductor. He studied piano at the conservatory in Mechelen and also studied physics

. He was a strong advocate of modern music and founded the Pro-Arte concerts in Brussels in 1921. He was director of Flemish music at Belgian Radio from 1937 to 1953. From 1950 on he devoted himself mainly to ethnomusicological research. Under his influence, the Cercle International d'études ethno-musicologiques was founded. He has also published many works on 20th century music.
