, Patrick Eston became acting leader of Veritas. In September he was elected to the post of party leader on a turnout of only 22% of Veritas members. A fresh NEC was formed in October. He announced what he described as a new direction for Veritas, stating "No longer will we be considered a rump of UKIP, we have a broad range of aims, ambitions and policies. We are now after a three-month period of reorganisation raising our game."

The NEC started a reconsideration of what were the party's core values, which were published on the party's revamped website in April 2006. Veritas contacted similar organisations such as United Kingdom Independence Party
