club medal. In 2006 Mulcahy won another brace of county and provincial medals, however, Newtown were later defeated by Portumna
in the All-Ireland final.

in the All-Ireland final. In 2004 Mulcahy sustained a serious hand injury in a road accident which ruled him out of the 2004 championship
. He returned to action in 2005, replacing the injured Wayne Sherlock
. That year Mulcahy won his second Munster title before winning his first All-Ireland
medal following a win over Galway
. His performance throughout the year earned him his first All-Star
award. In 2006 Mulcahy was appointed captain of the senior hurling team. He guided them to another Munster title, however, Cork were defeated by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. Mulcahy retired from inter-county hurling following this game.
