He is Vice-Chairman on the SDLP, a Belfast Harbour Commissioner, a member of the North Belfast Partnership and a former Chairman of the Belfast District Policing Partnership. He also served as Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast from 2005 to 2006. Convery is married with two daughters, and lives in Belfast.
