The city draws its name from the trailer (mobile home) parks that house the majority of its residents. There is also a small industrial/manufacturing base. Park City was incorporated in 1958 through the approval of a refendum by Park City residents.

The city government consists of six aldermen and one mayor. The city has a park system, bike trails, and police department, but appears not to have an official website of any kind.

Reputation as a Speed Trap

The city has developed a local reputation as a speed trap. A small portion of U.S. Highway 41 travels through the community, and an unmarked Park City police department Ford Crown Victoria often waits in the median, under the overpass, shooting radar at oncoming traffic. Because the city seems not to have any type of official website, any information on the community, including the police department, is difficult to come by.
