A 2008 analysis of the Austronesian Basic Vocabulary Database fully supported the unity of the Papuan Tip languages.

The analysis included the Central Papuan Tip languages Magori, Motu, and Mekeo; Kilivila; and several "Nuclear Papuan Tip" languages. Neither traditional Nuclear Papuan Tip nor its main branch, North Papuan Mainland – D'Entrecasteaux, were supported as units. The position of Maisin was not tested.
